Introduction

OctoDash ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information in our mobile application.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• API Key: Your Octopus Energy API key (stored locally on your device only)
• Account Number: Your Octopus Energy account number (optional, stored locally)
• MPAN and Serial Number: Your electricity meter details (stored locally)
• Region Selection: Your UK region for tariff calculations (stored locally)
• Webhook URLs: URLs for home automation webhooks (Pro users, stored locally)
• Price Alert Settings: Your custom price thresholds and alert preferences (stored locally)
• App Preferences: Theme settings and other app preferences (stored locally)

Automatically Collected Information

• Usage Analytics: We use Google Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage data, such as which screens you visit, tab navigation, home widget interactions, and in-app purchase events. This helps us understand how the app is used and prioritise improvements. Analytics data is processed by Google — see Firebase Privacy information and Google's Privacy Policy. We do not use analytics to identify you personally.
• Device Information: Firebase Analytics may collect device and app-instance identifiers automatically as part of usage reporting. We do not collect device information beyond what Firebase Analytics provides.
• Location Data: We do not collect or use location data

How We Use Your Information

Third-Party Services

Octopus Energy API

• Your API key is used to fetch tariff rates and usage data directly from Octopus Energy
• All API communications are encrypted (HTTPS)
• We only request data you explicitly authorize

Webhook Services (Pro Users Only)

• If you configure webhook notifications, OctoDash sends HTTP POST requests to your specified webhook URLs
• These requests contain price alert data (see our Automation documentation for payload details)
• Webhook URLs are stored locally on your device
• You control which services receive alerts (IFTTT, Zapier, Home Assistant, etc.)
• All webhook communications use HTTPS encryption

Google Firebase Analytics

• We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous app usage data (screen views, navigation, widget taps, and purchase events)
• Data is processed by Google Firebase in accordance with Google's privacy policies

• You can limit ad/analytics tracking in your device settings (e.g. "Limit Ad Tracking" on iOS or "Opt out of Ads Personalisation" on Android)

Google AdMob (Free Users)

• Free users see advertisements via Google AdMob
• AdMob may collect information for ad personalization

• You can opt out of personalized ads in your device settings
• Pro users and users who purchase "Remove Ads" do not see advertisements

Google Play In-App Billing

• In-app purchases (Remove Ads, Pro subscription) are processed by Google Play
• We do not collect or store payment information
• Purchase verification is handled by Google Play services

Data Storage

• All user data is stored locally using Android's SharedPreferences/iOS Keychain
• No personal account data is transmitted to external servers owned or operated by OctoDash
• Anonymous usage analytics are sent to Google Firebase Analytics as described above
• API communications go directly from your device to Octopus Energy's servers
• Webhook alerts (Pro users) go directly from your device to your configured webhook URLs

Data Security

• Your API key and webhook URLs are stored securely on your device
• All communications with Octopus Energy use HTTPS encryption
• All webhook requests use HTTPS encryption
• We do not have access to your data
• Your data never leaves your device except for direct API calls to Octopus Energy, your configured webhook services, and anonymous analytics sent to Google Firebase Analytics

Pro Features & Subscriptions

OctoDash offers optional paid features:

• Remove Ads (£0.99 one-time): Disables advertisements
• Pro Subscription (£1.99/month): Includes ad removal, unlimited webhook alerts, custom alert timing, and alert history

Purchase data is managed by Google Play. We only store a local flag indicating your purchase status for feature access control.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access: View all data stored in the app via the Settings screen
• Delete: Clear all data using the "Reset App" button in Settings
• Control: Manage what data you provide to the app
• Export: Your data is stored in plain text/JSON format on your device

Children's Privacy

OctoDash is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted in this document with an updated "Last updated" date.

Disclaimer, No Liability, and As-Is Terms

OctoDash is a personal hobby project and is provided for general informational and utility purposes only.

• As-Is / As-Available: OctoDash is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including (without limitation) warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability, non-infringement, or uninterrupted availability.
• No Liability: To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, revenue, savings, or profits, arising from or related to your use of (or inability to use) OctoDash, including errors, outages, delays, missing data, tariff/pricing inaccuracies, webhook failures, or third-party service issues.
• User Responsibility: You are solely responsible for how you use the app and for any decisions or actions you take based on app content, calculations, alerts, or third-party data.

Data Deletion

To delete all data associated with OctoDash:

1. Open the app
2. Go to Settings
3. Scroll to "Danger Zone"
4. Tap "Reset App"

Alternatively, uninstalling the app will permanently delete all locally stored data.
